Las Vegas experienced a second wave of development starting in 1989 with the opening of The Mirage. This new mega-resort featured much more complex and rounded entertainment than the previous casinos, which focused mainly on gambling.
Starting in the 2000s, a new type of resort targeting visitors looking for luxury and opulence started to spring up in Vegas. The Venetian and Bellagio are examples of these themed casino resorts that also attempted to showcase popular world tourist destinations like Venice and Egypt.
